Data Protection Confidential Shredding

According to Data IQ, “Personal data” is defined in both the Directive and the GDPR as any information relating to a person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that person.”
Although businesses and organisations have always had a responsibility under the Data Protection Act 1998 to protect client data, under the new GDPR the penalties for not doing so are dramatically higher. The current maximum fine is £500,000 and the new penalties will reach an upper limit of €20 million or 4% or annual global turnover, whichever is higher.
